The Moments That Matter – A Reminder For All During The 24 Hour Trial
When athletes begin their journey towards the BOV Volleyball Marathon, one of the very first things they’re told isn’t about tactics, fitness, or endurance.
It’s about why we do it.
Yes, the volleyball marathon is an incredible sporting challenge. Playing continuously for 53 hours demands preparation, determination, and teamwork. But for everyone involved, the real purpose goes far beyond what happens on the court.
Every year, the BOV Volleyball Marathon is organised in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, which provides a loving home for 115 residents across its different residences. The organisation is committed to giving every resident a family environment, independence, and a life filled with dignity.
Providing that level of care comes with significant costs, which is why fundraising initiatives like the volleyball marathon are so important.
But the impact of the event isn’t measured only in the euros raised.
More Than a Fundraiser
For the residents of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the BOV Volleyball Marathon is one of the highlights of the year.
Every edition, they welcome the players with open arms, spend time courtside, and become part of the event from the very first whistle to the final point.
In many ways, it’s like having a village festa right outside their front door.
The laughter, the music, the cheering, and the constant buzz of activity create an atmosphere that everyone looks forward to. Seeing the residents encouraging the athletes and sharing in the excitement is something that simply can’t be described, you have to experience it.
It’s one of the moments that reminds everyone involved why this event has become so special over the years.
A Reminder During the 24-Hour Trial
The athletes currently training for this year’s BOV Volleyball Marathon experienced that feeling for themselves during last weekend’s 24-hour trial.
Despite the soaring summer temperatures, the residents came out in force to support the players.
Some even stepped onto the court to try volleyball for themselves, while others cheered every rally from the sidelines with smiles, applause, and plenty of encouragement.

For many of the athletes, it was a powerful reminder that every training session, every trial, and every hour of preparation is about something much bigger than sport.
Those moments reinforced the purpose behind the challenge and strengthened everyone’s determination to make this year’s event the biggest success yet.
The BOV Volleyball Marathon takes place between Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th July at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, where athletes, volunteers, supporters, and residents will once again come together for an unforgettable 53-hour fundraiser in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
Because in the end, it’s never just about volleyball.
It’s about people. It’s about community. And it’s about making a difference together.
