The Stories Behind the BOV Volleyball Marathon: Meet George

George loves music, enjoys being around people, and although his communication is limited, he still tries to sing along whenever he hears one of his favourite songs.

His joy is infectious, and it’s one of the many things his mother treasures most about him.

But George’s story is also one of resilience, determination, and a mother’s unwavering love.

A Future That Nobody Could Predict

When George’s mother was seven months pregnant, doctors gave her devastating news.

They told her that her son would be born with cerebral palsy and warned that he would likely survive only a short time after birth.

George had other plans.

Nearly 30 years later, he continues to prove just how wrong those predictions were, bringing happiness to everyone who knows him.

Facing Life Together

When George was just seven years old, his father passed away.

From that moment on, his mother faced the responsibility of raising and caring for him on her own.

She remembers the loneliness that came with being a widow, especially during moments when difficult decisions had to be made.

Something as simple as signing a medical consent form before surgery became a reminder that she no longer had someone beside her to share the responsibility.

Yet she never stopped putting George first.

Planning Ahead Out of Love

As the years passed, George continued to require constant care and support.

His mother also began thinking about the future.

One question kept returning to her mind:

“What would happen if I became ill or had to go to hospital?”

Rather than waiting for a crisis, she made the courageous decision to help George move to Id-Dar tal-Providenza while she could still support him through the transition.

She wanted him to adapt gradually, surrounded by familiar faces and with the reassurance that she would always be close by.

A New Home, A Brighter Future

Her fears quickly disappeared.

George settled into life at Id-Dar tal-Providenza almost immediately.

Today, his mother believes the move transformed his life.

He enjoys a full routine, meaningful activities, friendships, and the care of a dedicated team who know him well and understand his needs.

With George now happily settled, she treasures every moment they spend together, knowing that when they meet, they can simply enjoy being mother and son.

A Mother’s Peace of Mind

For George’s mother, the greatest gift Id-Dar tal-Providenza has given her is reassurance.

She speaks with deep gratitude about the staff, describing them as people who care for George with kindness, patience, and genuine affection every single day.

Most importantly, she finds comfort in knowing that, when the day comes that she is no longer here, George will continue to be surrounded by people who will care for him as if he were one of their own.

For any parent, there is no greater peace of mind.

Helping Families Like George’s

George’s story is a powerful reminder that Id-Dar tal-Providenza provides so much more than care.

It offers security, friendship, dignity, and hope, for residents and for the families who love them.

This year’s BOV Volleyball Marathon takes place between Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th July at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali.

Every donation helps ensure that residents like George continue to live full and joyful lives, while giving parents the reassurance that their children will always have a place they can truly call home.

Because every parent hopes for the same thing—that their child will always be safe, happy, and loved.
