Players conduct 12 hour trial at St. Dorothy’s School Grounds in Żebbuġ
With training now officially underway, athletes hoping to secure a place in this year’s BOV Volleyball Marathon headed to St. Dorothy’s School in Żebbuġ and faced their first major test over the weekend.
The players were divided into six teams and took part in a challenging 12-hour trial, marking the first real endurance test on the road to the volleyball marathon. The trial provided coaches and organisers with an opportunity to assess participants in a competitive environment while also giving players a taste of the physical and mental demands that lie ahead.
Throughout the 12-hour challenge, players were evaluated across several key areas, including physical fitness, technical volleyball skills, teamwork, attitude, and overall readiness for the marathon. These assessments contribute towards the final selection process, which will ultimately determine the 40 athletes chosen to participate in this year’s BOV Volleyball Marathon.
The trial also highlighted the importance of teamwork and resilience, two qualities that are essential for successfully completing a 53-hour volleyball marathon. Big thanks to the administration of St. Dorothy’s for giving us access to their school grounds and making the 12 hour trial possible!

Next Stop: The 24-Hour Trial
While the players successfully completed their first endurance challenge, the journey is only just beginning.
Training sessions continue throughout this week as athletes prepare for their next major milestone: the 24-hour trial taking place between Saturday and Sunday. This longer and more demanding challenge will further test players’ stamina, commitment, and ability to perform under fatigue as the competition for a place among the final 40 intensifies.
With every training session and trial, excitement continues to build for what promises to be another unforgettable BOV Volleyball Marathon in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
